Dell Technologies has announced an investment of
US$50 million over three years, since 2019, in the setup of a Global Innovation
Hub (GIH) in Singapore. The investments will go towards accelerating
developments in digital experiences as well as in research and development capabilities.

The GIH houses the Singapore Design Centre,
responsible for global product design and development of key product categories,
a hardware prototyping lab dedicated to product design and innovation, and an Artificial
Intelligence (AI) Experience Zone. The facility will have a focus on mixed reality
(augmented and virtual realities), cloud-native applications, edge computing
and cybersecurity.

Amit Midha, President, Asia Pacific & Japan
and Global Digital Cities, Dell Technologies, emphasised that the GIH aims to
fast-track the adoption of digital solutions and drive digital innovations
developed in Singapore for partners and customers worldwide – including
broadcast, media and entertainment firms – to be future-ready.

“We would be actively driving these
made-in-Singapore solutions to our partners and customers globally,” he said.

“We see a number of growth areas such as augmented/mixed
reality, data analytics and even edge computing having relevance to the
broadcast, media and entertainment space.  For example, faster networking
technologies such as 5G will allow for edge computing to accelerate the
creation and support for more real-time applications like video processing and
analytics.”

“Media and entertainment have gone digital from
content creation and production, to broadcast and content delivery. Dell
Technologies is set to transform the digital media and entertainment era
together with our partners and customers,” Midha added.

“We design solutions that meet performance
demands for high-resolution asset creation and accelerated rendering so
customers can deliver complex scenes and fast-track content to market. We
support their workflows, assets and content for ingest, creation, playout and
archive by offering an end-to-end infrastructure from workstations to displays,
servers, storage and networking, coupled with cloud and edge computing
solutions.”

Dell has specific solutions
targeted at the media and entertainment industry, including Dell EMC
unstructured data storage, Dell Precision workstations and PowerEdge
servers.
