South Korean mobile network operator LG U+, has selected Media Links’ MD8000 Media-over-IP Transport technology for the delivery of content over its nationwide media network.
The MD8000 platform enables LG U+ to provide real-time, low latency delivery of 4K Ultra HD (UHD) video, as well as other media services, over its network backbone. These varied media services can be utilised by broadcasters to deliver content from source to multiple destinations and back again across the region.
Korean Broadcasting System (KBS), for instance, will be using Media Links technology in the LG U+ network to deliver media services across the Korean peninsula.
Partnering with Media Links also allows LG U+ to utilise an IP-based workflow for its broadcast services, providing a transition from legacy SDI media environments along with several other key benefits and advantages, including more efficient network bandwidth utilisation, decreased IP equipment costs, adaptable and scalable service offerings, and support for evolving media resolutions, standards, and formats.
For this particular LG U+ expansion, close to two dozen 7RU large capacity Media Links MD8000 EX chassis will be deployed, supporting over a hundred video/audio services at resolutions up to 4K UHD, along with a similar number of data channels.
The MD8000 media transport platform supports both equipment and network redundancy with protection switching, error correction, low-latency, and bi-directional operation, while the MD8000 suite of products is an adaptable solution for transporting uncompressed and compressed video of all resolutions along with audio and data.
