Russell Johnson, Director of Hitomi, showcased the company's measuring and broadcast timing products at the NAB Show 2023 in Las Vegas. The company specialises in video-to-video, video-to-audio, and lip sync measurement, as well as latency measurement from the camera through various parties. "We're specialists in measuring and broadcast timing. So that's video-to-video, video-to-audio, and lipsync.
We can also measure latency from right in front of the camera through whatever party wants, and the actual time of flight that takes the signal to go all the way," said Johnson in an interview with Asia-Pacific Broadcasting+. Hitomi's unique selling proposition at the show was the introduction of the SMPTE ST2110 interface. The product allows native measurement of timing in the IP world, which is a big headache for many in the industry.
The timing measurement product is available in both SDI and IP in the same box, making it an ideal solution for those who have a hybrid workflow. "Its unique selling proposition is that it is available in both SDI and IP in the same box. So you've got people who've got a hybrid workflow, you can measure one set of timing against the other, and know the difference between your IP workflow and your SDI. And to my mind, that's the only one. We're the only people technologically," said Johnson.
The NAB Show is an annual trade show produced by the National Association of Broadcasters and showcases the latest in media, entertainment, and technology. The event was held in Las Vegas from April 18 to 21. Hitomi is a UK-based company that specialises in delivering video and audio measurement tools for broadcasters and content providers worldwide.
With more and more cloud production going on, the software is the key, and Hitomi has developed a software version of its analyser that can be deployed in the cloud. "That's the other thing that is very new here," said Johnson. Hitomi's showcasing of the SMPTE ST2110 interface at the NAB Show 2023 highlights the continued need for video and audio measurement tools in the media industry.
As the world continues to shift towards IP-based workflows, solutions like Hitomi's product are becoming increasingly essential to ensure that timing and other important factors are properly measured and maintained. "Our product is a really useful tool for people who want to make sure that their timings are accurate and that the signals are flowing in the right way," said Johnson.
Hitomi's presence at the NAB Show underscores the importance of video and audio measurement in the modern media landscape. With the company's cutting-edge technology and commitment to innovation, Hitomi is well-positioned to continue providing broadcasters and content providers with the tools they need to succeed in an ever-changing industry.
