This comes after its merger with OneWeb to provide improved satellite services.
From launching its first satellite in 1983, Eutelsat has proven its name as one of the well-known commercial satellite operations in the world.
It currently has 26 satellites in operation and works with various broadcasters, telecom operators, video service providers, ISPs and government agencies across the globe.
The company’s satellites are being used for video broadcasting, broodband services, data connectivity, satellite newsgathering, airplane and ship connections and other vital communications.
In an interview during BroadcastAsia 2023 of APB+, the company’s Global Head of Business Development Thierry Polycarpe said that it is doubling its efforts in Asia.
“The first thing was to re-emphasize our presence over Asia and our capability to serve an array and a big portfolio of different customers… Eutelsat is one of the major player in the broadcasting world. And this is a key region for secure region development in bringing over channel and broadcasters and also public service broadcasters over one of our key hotspots, from Africa, Middle East Europe, and also Latin America,” he explained.
Polycarpe said that with new information surrounding connectivity in the APAC region, the company is looking into tapping the underserved areas as well.
“The new endeavor that Eutelsat, together with OneWeb, [is] developing in serving the underserved areas around the world. [That’s why the] merger between Eutelsat was quite an exciting news,” he added.
However, one sector comes to mind when looking into improvement. Polycarpe that it sees the mobility segment to be one industry that needs focusing on, especially after recent events have taken place.
“I would say the maritime sector is indeed one of our portfolio, but what we see is that the mobility segment is one of the key areas of growth for the satellite business, because [during] COVID, we discovered that there was an important need for the development of connectivity services to help the crew who were stuck on the ship,” he shared.
“Today, the only solution that is able to serve them and give them a lot of information [is this]. [What can help them in] continuing their work and also adding a decent life onboard the ship, is connectivity by satellite,” he added.
During the BroadcastAsia 2023 event, Eutelsat found itself in a positive position as it was able to converse with different customers from Oceania, South Asia, and the U.S. The company finds it a necessary move to have more visibility in the years to come to promote more its satellite services globally.
Eutelsat was created in 1977 as an international organization in 1977 and has since became a private company by 2001.
Today, it seeks to focus on delivering high quality services through technology. As an ever-evolving industry, it taps in having expertise and the necessary innovation needed to further develop its satellites and other products.
It seeks to promote sustainable development by creating opportunities for positive business opportunities.
