Dimension Studios has announced partnerships with Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Arch Platform Technologies — a platform-as-a-service to scale and manage compute and storage resources for demanding workflows — to bolster its global virtual production and content creation services.
This collaboration marks a significant step forward for Dimension as it scales its operations to meet growing demand in the virtual production industry while expanding its footprint in the global entertainment market.
Dimension, known for its work in virtual production, has selected AWS as its primary cloud provider. This decision underscored Dimension’s commitment to leveraging AWS’ expansive infrastructure to enhance its virtual production workflows. Additionally, Dimension will harness the capabilities of the Arch platform to streamline the orchestration of its advanced performance virtual desktop infrastructure, storage solutions, and real-time processing capabilities.
Callum Macmillan, CTO of Dimension & DNEG 360, expressing confidence in the partnership, said, “With AWS’ global footprint and Arch’s infrastructure platform, we can collaborate remotely with filmmakers who are using real-time to block out scenes, or our teams can work across multiple locations on shared assets, in conjunction with demanding virtual production environments — this is an efficient, secure, sustainable solution that’s a game-changer for our offering.”
Dimension’s collaboration with AWS and Arch Platform Technologies is set against the backdrop of its subsidiary, DNEG 360, which operates some of the world’s largest LED volumes and advanced capture stages. Together, Dimension and DNEG 360 have forged partnerships with industry giants such as Apple, Sony Pictures, and Netflix, cementing their leadership in virtual production for film and episodic products.
The implementation of AWS services supports Dimension’s compute, storage, and remote workstations needs. Specifically, Dimension has been leveraging AWS Deadline Cloud to support cloud-based render pipelines, enhancing efficiency and scalability in content creation.
Earlier this year, Dimension and DNEG 360 teamed up with AWS for Cowgirls on the Moon, showcasing advancements in generative AI-assisted virtual production and cloud-based VFX rendering.
