BCNEXXT’s Vipe on AWS resolves over-positioning cloud resources

BCNEXXT, a provider of virtualised, cloud-native systems for linear, video-on-demand (VoD), and over-the-top (OTT) publishing, is collaborating with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to deliver the automated deployment of cloud resources within Vipe, BCNEXXT’s virtualised cloud-based publishing ecosystem.
This cutting-edge technology, now in use across multiple channels, dynamically allocates cloud resources based on demand, offering broadcasters efficiency, scalability, and cost-savings while solving long-standing industry challenges.
Unlike traditional systems that rely on fixed allocated resources like virtual machines, Vipe leverages AWS advanced cloud-native features. Using a microservices-based, containerised architecture, the system dynamically scales resources up or down depending on the complexity of the content. This approach, according to BCNEXXT, minimises resource usage and keeps costs to a minimum.
BCNEXXT’s ability to innovate with AWS was showcased when it demonstrated Vipe’s automated deployment of AWS Cloud resources at IBC 2024. The system allows broadcasters to drop content and schedules into a watch folder, triggering the automatic creation of a complete playout channel in minutes, without human intervention.
Early cloud playout systems for broadcast relied on static virtual machines, leading to inefficiencies, excessive costs, and failed expectations. Many broadcasters fell back on hybrid on-premises models, which only exacerbated complexity and operational difficulties.
BCNEXXT’s Vipe system running on AWS directly addresses these issues. By dynamically spinning up and down cloud resources based on demand, the system eliminates wasted capacity and keeps operating costs low.
Vipe allocates resources in real-time, enabling broadcasters to handle everything from basic playout to complex live events without over-provisioning.
Sander ten Dam, Chief Operating Officer, BCNEXXT, said, “Our collaboration with AWS allows broadcasters to truly harness the power of the cloud. Whether spinning up resources for live sports events or managing everyday workflows, our system provides the technical agility and business advantages broadcasters need to stay competitive while significantly reducing operational costs.”
