EBU salutes France TV & Dalet for their content authenticity project

In collaboration with Dalet, French broadcaster France Télévisions has received the 2025 European Broadcasting Union (EBU) Technology & Innovation Award for their C2PA in Action project.
The prestigious award, presented by the EBU, recognises innovative initiatives that advance broadcasting technology or media production processes. The project integrates the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA) standards into France Télévisions’ newsroom, tackling a key industry challenge — combating misinformation and ensuring content authenticity in the age of AI-generated media and deep fakes.
Romuald Rat, Director of TechLab-AI, France Télévisions, said, “We are honoured to have received the prestigious EBU Technology & Innovation Award in recognition of the groundbreaking project we have developed to ensure our audiences receive reliable and trustworthy information.
“By automating the C2PA signing process within our existing production environment, we’ve been able to enhance transparency and build confidence for our viewers.
“Partnering with Dalet on this innovative project was essential, and close collaboration played a key role in its success.”
Looking to set a new benchmark for transparency in journalism, France Télévisions partnered with Dalet to create an innovative proof of concept (PoC) that integrates C2PA standards into newsroom workflows.
Looking to equip audiences with tools to verify the integrity and origin of content, the project involved three core technical components:
- Signing the content: Each piece of media was cryptographically signed using an identity certificate, confirming its origin from France Télévisions.
- Embedding metadata: Essential editorial details, such as journalist names and broadcast dates, were included in the C2PA manifest.
- Verification on digital platforms: A custom player developed by France Télévisions allowed audiences to access and verify C2PA metadata, ensuring transparency and trust.
By prioritising authenticity, this initiative not only enhances trust in media, but also modernises newsroom operations to meet the challenges of today’s digital landscape.
Mathieu Zarouk, VP of Product Management, Dalet, added, “This award reflects our dedication to co-designing innovative solutions with our customers. C2PA is a recent, open standard with many possible paths for implementation, which is why early collaboration with an industry leader like France Télévisions was so critical. Their expertise ensured we were building in the right direction.
“This recognition highlights the impact of that close partnership and our shared commitment to innovation, trust, and transparency in media. Together, we’ve laid a strong foundation for a robust content authenticity ecosystem that benefits both professionals and audiences worldwide.”
