News Malayalam overcomes several pain points with ChromaLight Paint

India’s first augmented reality (AR)/virtual reality (VR)/mixed reality (XR)-powered Malayalam news channel studio has enabled its News Malayalam team to leverage cutting-edge immersive technologies to deliver dynamic storytelling 24/7.
While their state-of-the-art studio is designed to meet the demands of next-generation production, the team at News Malayalam recently identified several pain points with their existing paint solutions.
These included the lack of enhanced durability to withstand frequent use, improved finish quality to reduce repainting needs, and superior chroma and keying quality for flawless AR/VR/XR productions.
To overcome these challenges, News Malayalam adopted ChromaLight’s two-layer system, which consists of Cyclorama Green Basecoat Paint and Cyclorama Green Topcoat Paint. The paints were applied on wooden walls and vinyl sheet flooring, using ChromaLight’s recommended application techniques.
This has resulted in high luminance and uniform colour dispersion, which has led to significantly cleaner keys with sharper edges. Spill has been drastically reduced, resulting in faster and more accurate keying, even in complex lighting setups. The washable, long-lasting surface is also able to withstand frequent setups without visible wear.
Reduced repainting and downtime, said News Malayalam, provides greater confidence and cost efficiency.
Consistency across shoots means fewer adjustments and fast setups, in turn improving workflow and output. Post-production work is minimised, allowing teams to focus on storytelling rather than technical fixes.
Anish P A, Senior Broadcast IT Manager, News Malayalam, said, “Our production quality has undoubtedly improved with ChromaLight. Even with difficult lighting setups, we achieve more consistent outcomes and spend much less time in post production.
“The durability and spill reduction features have made a significant difference in our workflow.”
