Leveraging on its own 5G technologies, along with China Mobile (Shanxi branch), ZTE is filming, editing, broadcasting and conducting live transmission of the country’s first 5G sports event being held in Shanxi Province from August 8 - 18.
ZTE is deploying its Digital Intelligent Indoor System 5G-QCell solution to cover the sports complex, such as the main stadium and the smaller venues.
To reduce latency to less than a second over IPTV, ZTE is making use of technologies like low latency coding and MEC (multi-access edge computing), thereby enabling it to deliver multi-angle views, flexible zooming, and free viewpoint; moreover, it is enhancing off-site audience experience when they are watching the games. Apart from viewing the games live, IPTV subscribers of China Mobile can also access the real-time multi-angle UHD live performances on its platform, from four different viewing angles.
This 5G live broadcast is part of ZTE's cooperation agreement signed in May with the Sports Bureau of Shanxi Province, Shanxi Branch of China Mobile and Shanxi Radio and Television Station.
The agreement came just in time as 5G broadcast trials are being conducted worldwide and 5G broadcast is one of the pillars of the China’s plan to offer enhanced mobile experience and unlimited media access in the country.
The Academy of Broadcasting Science (ABS) and China Broadcasting Network Co. Ltd. (CBN) will also be doing a 5G broadcast trial in Beijing this month, ahead of the Beijing International Radio, TV & Film Exhibition (BIRTV) show on August 20-24.
This broadcast trial is just a prelude to broadcasting the 2022 Winter Olympic Games in Beijing in 5G.
