American football broadcasting kicks off with Chyron dynamic graphic tools

Chyron has introduced Virtual Placement 7.7, a major update to its dynamic graphics platform designed to revolutionise American football broadcasts. Packed with new tools and features, this latest release aims to enhance the storytelling power of game-day coverage, offering broadcasters and venue operators advanced capabilities to captivate audiences with visually immersive experiences.
One of the additions is the Field Goal Target tool, which enables broadcasters to display precise, team-specific target lines. By storing predefined field goal ranges for home and away teams, this tool ensures accurate placement while highlighting each team’s field goal capabilities. This provides viewers with insights into scoring potential, adding depth to live coverage.
The Red Zone tool has also received enhancements. It now features a customisable outline option, allowing broadcasters to adjust textures, colours, sizes, and opacities to highlight the 20-yard zone effectively. Tailored to align with the National Football League’s (NFL) new kickoff rule, the tool introduces fresh field graphics for the “landing zone”, offering a modernised approach to visuals that can be adapted to team branding or broadcast themes.
Further elevating in-game flexibility, the Down & Distance module has been upgraded with automation and expanded settings. The play clock can now automatically adjust its colour based on time remaining, and it animates on and off-air at specific intervals. Operators can access down and scrimmage information through an enhanced menu, enabling swift adjustments during gameplay. Additionally, an automatic midfield switching feature streamlines transitions as teams cross the 50-yard line, reducing manual effort and minimising errors.
Andreas Olsson, Product Manager for Virtual Placement, said, “Virtual Placement 7.7 continues our mission to deliver unparalleled storytelling tools for sports broadcasters.
“By introducing features like the Field Goal Target tool and automating critical aspects of game-day coverage, we empower broadcasters to focus on the game while captivating the audience.”
