“BBC Travel Show” now available on China’s Ctrip travel app

Starting mid-February, "BBC Travel Show" will be streamed on the Ctrip travel app, providing a variety of global and local travel content to consumers in China

From variations of wildlife in Thailand to go-karting in Tokyo as well as a peek into Manila jeepneys, Chinese consumers are now able to explore some of the most popular holiday destinations through the lenses of BBC Travel Show, which is being streamed onto China’s Ctrip travel app.

This is made possible following the collaboration between BBC Global News and Ctrip, a Chinese travel company and owner of Skyscanner. The partnership also marks BBC Global News’ first digital distribution deal in China.

Jim Egan, CEO of BBC Global News, said: “We are pleased to have the opportunity to work with Ctrip to make BBC Travel Show content available to Chinese audiences, especially the outbound travellers from China.

“Hopefully it will inspire and motivate them to explore the world.”

He added: “BBC Travel Show is content that we are proud of globally, and to now be able to share this with an audience we have never previously reached with this content is really exciting for us.”

A total of 38 shows from the BBC Travel Show, including videos from Asia and around the world, is featured as short video clips on the Ctrip app. Besides exploring Asia, the programme will also take viewers from the blossoming vegan eating scene in London to the experience of snow-holing in Scotland, and an exploration of some of New York’s subway art.

Jane Sun, CEO of Ctrip, said: “With the quality travel videos from the BBC’s flagship travel programme, our users will be able to experience new destinations around the globe, and uncover hidden sides to some of the world’s favourite holiday hotspots at their fingertips.”
