Netflix and game developer Ubisoft have come together to produce a live-action series adaptation of the video game franchise Assassin’s Creed. Both companies will tap into the video game’s “trove of dynamic stories” with adaptations of live-action, animated and anime series.
The first series being developed is said to be an epic genre-bending live-action adaptation.
Launched in 2007, the
action-adventure video game has since sold more than 155 million units worldwide.
Jason Altman, Executive
Producer of the series and Head of Ubisoft Film & Television – Los Angeles,
said: “For more than 10 years, millions of fans around the world have helped
shape the Assassin’s Creed brand into an iconic franchise.
“We’re thrilled to
create an Assassin’s Creed series with Netflix, and we look forward to
developing the next saga in the Assassin’s Creed universe.”
While fans wait for
the Assassin’s Creed series, Netflix is already streaming other movies
and series adapted from video games such as Dad of Light, Castlevania,
Dragon Quest: Your Story, and The Witcher.
This November also
marks the release of the PlayStation5 gaming console. The media remote of the
new console is integrated with a dedicated Netflix button, allowing users to
directly access the streaming service.
Furthermore, the
PlayStation5’s control centre has a dedicated space for user’s TV and media
apps where the Netflix app can be found too.
Even without the
media remote, users can navigate Netflix through the DualSense controller. For
instance, the arrow keys function as directional buttons, and clicking the “X”
button confirms a selection, while pressing the “O” button cancels or returns
to the previous page.
