While broadcasting live for more than 16 hours daily, South Korea’s WOW TV, an affiliate of the Korea Economic Daily business newspaper, found the reliability and redundancy of its systems to be a key consideration when migrating to a fully 12G-based Ultra HD (UHD) setup.

After performing a comparative review with products from various manufacturers, WOW TV decided to install a range of Lawo audio-over-IP (AoIP) equipment, including mc²56 MkIII production consoles, an A__UHD core platform, and A__line Audio-over-IP Nodes.

Control rooms A and B on the WOW TV News Centre’s 11th and 12th floors are each equipped with 32-fader mc²56 MkIII audio production consoles, which have native support for SMPTE 2110, AES67/RAVENNA and MADI audio streams. In addition to multi-user operation, AutoMix, upmix and downmix, these consoles include audio-follows-video functionality, integrated 3D/immersive mixing tools, and parallel compression.

These are supported by Lawo’s IP Easy functionality, which is based on the HOME management platform for IP broadcast infrastructure, and provides features like automatic detection and quarantine routines for IP setup.

Jea Gyu Park, Sales Manager at Dongyang Digital, which provided the equipment to WOW TV, said, “IP-based media operations are the future. Networking all broadcast devices and solutions, locally and over a wide-area network, provides our broadcast customers with the flexibility needed to stay at the cutting edge.

“Lawo has the infrastructure to make this happen. We have been a Lawo partner for five years, and their products and solutions have always fit the customers’ needs for flexible, efficient workflows.”
