Amidst the
current COVID-19 pandemic, Mediacorp, Singapore’s national media network, has
aired a variety of content across various platforms – from TV to the web and
connected devices – to actively engage viewers as a ‘go-to source for timely,
trusted news and quality, engaging content’ and to deter the spread of disinformation
nationwide.
The
initiative has resulted in a spike in news consumption. Within the past six
weeks, the primetime news bulletins across all Mediacorp channels achieved a 73%
increase in overall ratings, compared to the same time last year. Furthermore, a
weekly average of 2.8 million Singaporeans accessed various news bulletins
across different time slots, with CNA news bulletins attracting more than one million
Singaporeans a week.
Mediacorp
has also produced multi-platform original infotainment series Learn Together with Me and Get Fit With Me which seek to support home-bound audiences to stay active during the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak.
As a result,
its digital content consumption in March 2020 has surpassed half-billion page
views, which is 3.5 times of last year’s.
Commenting
on the increased viewership, Tham Loke Kheng, CEO, Mediacorp, said: “As the
national media network, Mediacorp plays an important role in rallying the
nation via the content and conversations we create.
“We are
proud that Singaporeans look to us, more than ever, for accurate, timely
information and quality entertainment.
“In the
same vein, our platforms will also provide our clients with a brand-safe
environment in which to advertise and engage a wide demographic of consumers,
as we continue working together to better serve our audiences.”
