Movicom and Aximmetry now ready to provide AR tracking for live production

Movicom and Aximmetry are ready to provide AR tracking for live production, after conducting a successful test of integrating their technologies.

During the trial, Movicom provided the cable camera system, which allowed for precise positional tracking data for the camera head, as well as lens and focus information via their software package, Compass AR. This positional data was then integrated into Aximmetry’s graphics software engine, Aximmetry Broadcast Edition with overlayed 3D virtual graphics elements that looked like they were in the live video scene.

Zoltan Motyan, CTO at Aximmetry, explained: “The interfacing was really easy — the system sent correctly calibrated positional data right away, and it only needed minimal setup on our side.

“Our AR graphics were on the field in the blink of an eye, and we were happy with the result.”  

The system was put through its paces, flying around and over virtual 3D objects such as moving race cars and static graphics. During the test, critical issues such as maintaining ‘floor’ level and graphic ‘sliding’ were examined and found to be aligned. There were also technical issues explored, including graphics placement, positioning in 3D space, and shadow placement, which all worked as expected. 

Victor Pakhomov, CEO of Movicom, added: “We’re very happy to be able to confirm that our systems work together. We had suspected that given our tech specs everything should work together, but until one does a test one can never be sure.
