Resolution: Doing more with less, without compromising quality

With 2024 upon us, many broadcasters are beginning to put in place strategies that will allow them to thrive in the new year. They are also looking for key strategic partners to support them to successfully navigate 2024.

For Cobalt Digital, its role as a key strategic partner begins with understanding what our customers want, says Suzana Brady, SVP Worldwide Sales & Marketing, Cobalt Digital. “At Cobalt we communicate with our customers constantly, asking what they need to thrive in an endlessly evolving industry and stay ahead of their competition.

“Lately we’ve seen a steady increase in the use of open protocols (for example: RIST) for video contribution and the rise of uncompressed IP video using ST 2110 in trucks for local sports production.

“And while low-latency is key and the use of simple low-latency CODECS such as JPEG-XS is increasing, we’re expecting advanced low-latency CODECS to rise in 2024.”

While this myriad of issues means it might be challenging to identify a singular trend to watch in 2024, Brady identifies one common thread that is likely to resonate: the ability to do more with less without compromising quality.

To support this, Cobalt is offering solutions such as the multi-faceted COBALT PACIFIC platform, which includes software-defined, broadcast-grade decoders and encoders that help broadcasters address today’s requirements while providing them with tools to prepare for future growth.

“Another solution is the new PACIFIC ULL-DEC decoder, which offers very low-latency operation but also functions as a traditional decoder with features including scaling, extensive audio decoding support, and wide network protocol support.

“The low-latency decoding can be combined with RIST for reliable delivery of SRT, UDP/RTP/FEC, RTMP/RTSP and ASI inputs,” smiles Brady.
