NUGEN Audio, a leading developer of innovative and intuitive professional audio tools, has recently launched its newest plugin, Jotter. Two weeks after its release, Jotter is already making waves in the audio industry. Jotter is a note-taking plugin that enables users to make notes and adjustments on their audio tracks, sync them to their timecode, and export a CSV file that can be shared with colleagues or co-producers.

As Tom Griffin, Assistant Product Specialist at NUGEN Audio, explained in a recent interview, Jotter is designed to streamline communication between different facilities in different studios. With remote working now a common practice in the industry, Jotter's ability to work as a standalone program or be loaded into a session is particularly relevant. "You can insert it onto your audio track, it can read the waveform as it's played," Griffin said. "And you can make simple little notes sync to your timecode. So, for example, you might want to say reduce the base of 20 seconds; maybe you want to boost the high end to 40 seconds."

Moreover, Jotter is NUGEN Audio's first plugin that incorporates accessibility features. Jotter is compatible with screen reading software, helping producers or mixers with visual impairments. It introduces keyboard shortcuts, allowing users to navigate the interface without relying on the screen as much. The plugin can also give readouts for different aspects of the interface, providing a level of detail in note-taking that markers on many audio workstations do not offer. Jotter's export feature enables producers or mixers to share their notes with colleagues or co-producers.

The recipient can then import the CSV file into their instance of Jotter, allowing them to see all the notes synced to their session. This process facilitates communication and collaboration between colleagues, streamlining the production process. Jotter is compatible with popular digital audio workstations such as Pro Tools, Logic, and Ableton.

It can also be used as a standalone program, enabling producers or mixers to make notes and adjustments to a WAV file before sharing it with colleagues or co-producers. "We're really excited about Jotter," Griffin said. "We feel like it's the first step into streamlining and making communication a lot more accessible and a lot more streamlined between different studios, different facilities." NUGEN Audio's Jotter is available now at the company's website, priced at $49.
