Videosys simplifies QDCAM camera settings for sports production

Videosys Broadcast has launched a cutting-edge control system designed for the MEDIAEDGE QDCAM high-speed box camera. This breakthrough system empowers broadcasters to incorporate the QDCAM camera into their production workflows with ease.

The plug-and-play system, based on fibre technology and designed to fit into standard equipment racks, features intuitive software that automatically configures camera and camera control unit (CCU) settings based on the chosen format. This solution enables broadcasters to deploy the QDCAM box camera for both 4K/Ultra HD (UHD) productions and high-speed (x4) slow-motion shots.

Colin Tomlin, Managing Director of Videosys Broadcast, asserted that the new Remote Control Panel (RCP) for MEDIAEDGE QDCAM will significantly enhance the camera’s appeal, particularly for sports programming requiring high-resolution 4K/UHD shooting and high-speed filming for slow-motion playback.

He explained, “The MEDIAEDGE QDCAM is a popular camera because it delivers excellent image quality at a very affordable price. However, for broadcast, its one drawback was its complicated set-up system and awkwardly-shaped boxes that were not weatherproof and didn’t fit standard equipment racks.”

“By working closely with MEDIAEDGE, we have succeeded in creating a new RCP system and fibre implementation that resolves all these issues and brings the camera firmly into the broadcast domain.

“We anticipate plenty of interest from broadcasters who can now easily incorporate QDCAM into their usual workflows.”

With the demand for affordable and reliable high-speed cameras growing in sports production, the QDCAM offers features such as image quality, remote camera/lens control with micro 4/3 lenses, with a Global Shutter CMOS Image Sensor for precise imaging without rolling shutter distortion.

The QDCAM’s Optical Transmission system uses standard SMPTE fibre optic camera cables, making it an efficient solution for stadiums and facilities frequently used for sports broadcasting.
