Les’ Copaque Production SDN BHD wins at Asia-Pacific Broadcasting+ Awards 2025
The company was named the Animation Storytelling – Malaysia award winner for its efforts in blending tradition with technology.
Les’ Copaque Production SDN BHD was recognised at the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting+ Awards 2025 for its work in the Malaysian animated film “Dongeng Sang Kancil” (A Tale of Sang Kancil).
“Dongeng Sang Kancil” is winning hearts and attention by combining rich folklore with modern animation and sound technology. It was created in a unique 2.5D style and enhanced with Dolby Atmos sound, bringing to life a classic local story with a fresh twist for today’s audience. It is worth noting that the respective film managed to garnered commendable box office collection as well as praised by the Prime Minister of Malaysia himself.
The film tells the powerful tale of a young mousedeer (Kancil), who survived a fall as a child and grew up to become a brave and clever hero. After losing its mother to a dark and mysterious force known as the Dark Shadow, the Kancil sets off on a journey to protect the jungle and uncover the truth.
With help from powerful allies like Gajah Belukar (ruler of the land), Raja Buaya (king of the river), and Helang Perkasa (guardian of the skies), the Kancil leads a united fight to save the jungle.
It’s a story that honours Malaysian heritage and embodies the values of courage, teamwork, and standing up against darkness.
Instead of using full 3D animation, the creators chose 2.5D animation, which is a unique mix of traditional 2D hand-drawn style and modern 3D motion. This style keeps the charm of classic storytelling whilst making the jungle world come alive with depth and movement.
To make the experience even more immersive, the film uses Dolby Atmos, a 3D sound technology that makes viewers feel like they’re right in the jungle. From rustling leaves and animal calls to dramatic action scenes, every sound moves around the audience, pulling them deeper into the story.
Whilst “Dongeng Sang Kancil” is rooted in Malaysian folklore, its message of bravery, unity, and environmental care speaks to people everywhere. The film introduces younger generations to traditional tales, all whilst showing how technology can help keep cultural stories alive.
Audiences have praised the film not only for its beautiful animation and sound but also for how it highlights values.
