Media Prima upgrades & unifies its studios with DHD SX2 consoles

Media Prima has upgraded its television broadcast infrastructure with the installation of DHD SX2 audio production mixers at its newly established studios in Balai Berita, Bangsar, Malaysia. The project, supporting flagship channels TV3 and 8TV, was delivered in partnership with VME Broadcast and systems integrator Stagetec Asia.

The upgrade is part of Media Prima’s broader digital transformation, aimed at unifying its news operations and streamlining cross-platform content delivery. Mohamad Rezwan Khalil Azmi, CTO, Media Prima, said, “There are currently two newsrooms in Balai Berita, but the inspiration is to create a single newsroom as a unified space for content gathering and curation, which can be distributed across our platforms with responsibility and focus.

“The transition was challenging, and full credit goes to the team. The project was inspired by the concept of ‘serumah’, or one house, bringing multiple platforms under one roof.

“The integration of these systems has significantly improved workflow efficiency, and our teams are now better equipped for seamless coordination across departments.”

Stagetec Asia integrated the modular DHD SX2 broadcast consoles into the production control suites of TV3 and 8TV, both free-to-air channels under Media Prima’s portfolio. TV3, one of Malaysia’s oldest private television stations, launched in 1984, is known for its Malay-language news and entertainment, while 8TV, launched in 2004, is a leading channel for Chinese-language content.

Leong Tong Sing, Technical Director, Stagetec Asia, elaborated, “Each SX2 features motorised faders, five 10.1-inch multitouch displays and an intuitive control interface, the combination being ideal for fast-paced newsroom workflows.

“The interface simplifies operations, allowing teams to stay focused on content delivery. Each 28-fader SX2 main console is backed up by a 10-fader auxiliary console, which takes over critical audio feeds in the event of main console failure, ensuring uninterrupted operation.”

To bolster live reporting capabilities, the project also includes the AVT TH2plus V2 IP telephone hybrid system, supporting both traditional and voice-over-IP (VoIP) connections for uninterrupted field communication.

Underpinning the SX2 system is DHD’s IP-based architecture, which enables flexible expansion and integration with other systems. The mixing desks use modular components and standard RJ45 and fibre-optic cabling for high-speed audio, power, and control signals.

“We are proud to support Media Prima’s digital transformation with future-ready technology and continuous technical support,” added Advon Tan, Managing Director, Stagetec Asia.
