New video-on-demand-over-satellite solution re-shaping media distribution

Castanet 5G and Forsway, alongside Mainstream Data, Apogee Networks, and Vodomedia, are unveiling what they call a “groundbreaking hybrid video-on-demand-over-satellite (VoDoS) solution” that blends one-to-all 5G broadcast delivery and edge-caching.

This innovative solution, the companies say, slashes costs, enhances quality, and scales effortlessly to address the streaming industry’s biggest challenges, including cost, reach, and last-mile reliability.

The new hybrid VoDoS solution merges national-scale distribution with direct-to-consumer edge-cached storage, delivering a B2B2C wholesale satellite service with enhanced efficiency for ISPs, including cellular, cable, wireless internet service providers (WISPs), geostationary Earth orbit (GEO) and low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites, over-the-top (OTT) platforms, and legacy direct-to-home (DTH) providers.

Vern Fotheringham, Executive Chairman, Castanet 5G, said, “The VoDoS satellite content delivery network (CDN) offers ISPs a fully end-to-end wholesale service that eliminates regional data centres and middle-mile costs for seamless, cost-efficient content delivery directly to consumers.”

Forsway’s advanced equipment enables direct-to-consumer access, integrated with VodoMedia’s robust online and offline digital rights management (DRM), ensuring secure, flexible content delivery to end users.

Tobias Forsell, CEO, Forsway, added, “Our hybrid VoDoS consortium creates a game-changing one-stop offering for ISPs of all types to easily roll-out video-on-demand (VoD) services and live streaming to a wide range of users with low cost of delivery, streamlined connectivity, and scalability for emerging business models.”

The partners provide a one-stop, end-to-end solution combining Forsway’s hybrid IP satellite tech and user devices, Mainstream Data’s ground segment services and network management, Vodomedia’s first tier studio content and offline/online DRM, plus Apogee Network’s and Castanet 5G’s one-to all 5G broadcast expertise and programme management.Targeting North America first, the VoDoS offering will empower ISPs, OTT providers, and Internet of Things (IoT) operators to rethink content delivery and empower future proof business models.

“For our partners, this is more than a technology shift — it’s a market opportunity. We are laying the infrastructure for sustainable growth in the next decade of media distribution,” Fotheringham concluded.
