Telestream: AI aids human creativity, not a replacement for it

As broadcasters and media enterprises navigate tighter budgets, fragmented platforms, and the rapid integration of AI into everyday workflows, technology vendors are being asked to deliver not just innovation, but trust and agility in equal measure.

Speaking with APB+'s Shaun Lim, Benjamin Desbois, Telestream's incoming CEO, discusses how the company is balancing AI-driven automation with human creativity, deepening customer partnerships amid industry consolidation, and positioning itself for growth across Asia-Pacific's fast-evolving broadcast landscape.

AI is reshaping broadcast and media workflows. How do you see Telestream balancing automation with human creativity, and what role will trust play in deploying AI at scale?

Desbois: AI is creating tremendous opportunities across media operations, but the most valuable applications are those that enhance human creativity rather than replace it.

Creative teams should be spending their time on storytelling, content production, and editorial decisions, not searching through footage, manually tagging assets, or performing repetitive operational tasks. This is where AI delivers the greatest impact: automating content enrichment, quality control, metadata generation, content discovery, and compliance processes, freeing creative professionals for higher-value work.

We describe this approach as Practical AI for Media Operations — AI embedded within the existing workflows as part of the production pipeline, delivering measurable efficiency gains while maintaining human oversight where judgment and editorial integrity matter most.

Trust is the foundation that makes AI adoption possible at scale. Media organisations need confidence that their content is secure, their IP is protected, and AI outputs are reliable and transparent. At Telestream, we give customers control over their data and workflows while ensuring content is not used to train external models. As AI becomes more deeply integrated into media operations, trust will be every bit as important as innovation itself.

Broadcasters and enterprises face tighter budgets and fragmented platforms. What concrete steps will Telestream take to ensure agility and deepen customer partnerships in this climate?

Desbois: Most media organisations are being asked to do more with less while managing increasingly complex technology environments. Our role is to help customers modernise at their own pace while maximising the value of their existing investments.

One priority is investing in open, interoperable workflows that connect the technologies customers already use. Media operations today run across on-premises, cloud, hybrid, and third-party platforms, so flexibility is critical — our ecosystem and integration strategy helps customers avoid vendor lock-in and build best-of-breed environments that can evolve with their business needs.

We are also focused on automation and operational efficiency. By combining workflow orchestration, intelligent processing, quality assurance, and AI-enhanced capabilities, we help customers reduce manual effort, accelerate content preparation, and streamline operations without increasing complexity.

Just as important is maintaining close relationships with our customers and partners. Technology decisions are increasingly strategic, and customers want partners who understand their business challenges, not just their technical requirements.

We will continue investing in customer engagement, local expertise, and collaborative development to solve real-world operational problems and help organisations navigate industry transformation with confidence.

Asia-Pacific broadcasters are accelerating their digital transformation. From your perspective, what unique opportunities or challenges does this region present for Telestream's growth?

Desbois: Asia-Pacific is one of the most dynamic media markets in the world, but also one of the most diverse. Different countries operate at very different levels of economic development, technology maturity, regulatory requirements, and market demand, so success here requires a tailored approach.

To stay close to customers and market developments, Telestream has invested in local teams across China, Japan, Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, and the Philippines, allowing us to understand local requirements and support long-term partnerships across the region.

APAC also presents significant growth opportunities, with many organisations accelerating digital transformation at an unmatched pace. In several markets, broadcasters are leapfrogging traditional infrastructure to move directly to cloud-first, IP-native, software-defined operations, which aligns well with Telestream's strengths in workflow orchestration, media processing, quality assurance, and hybrid cloud deployment.

We are also seeing growing demand for large-scale ST 2110 deployments, AI-powered automation, scalable over-the-top (OTT) delivery, and intelligent media workflows, as broadcasters move beyond experimentation towards proven, production-ready solutions. Telestream supports this transition through platforms such as Vantage, our AI-enhanced workflow solutions, cloud-native quality control, and IP monitoring and assurance capabilities.

The region's thriving sports, live events, and streaming markets are another key opportunity, with low-latency delivery, real-time monitoring, and intelligent quality control becoming essential as audiences expect high-quality content everywhere.

APAC will continue to be a major driver of innovation in media technology, and we are committed to helping customers modernise, scale, and innovate with confidence.
