iflix scores sports streaming deal with Football Malaysia
As part of the companies’ joint mission to bring football back to the people, Malaysian football fans will be able to enjoy the entire football season on the new “Football Malaysia on iflix” channel
Having launched live football streaming of Indonesia’s Liga 1 and Liga 2 tournaments last year, iflix, a subscription video-on-demand (SVoD) service headquartered in Malaysia, has marked another milestone with the collaboration with Football Malaysia, the operator and regulator of Malaysia’s professional football league and competitions.
The deal will see the launch of a “Football Malaysia on iflix” channel, which is packed with Liga Super, Piala Malaysia and marquee Piala FA matches.
Tunku Ismail ibni Sultan Ibrahim, Crown Prince of Johor, as president of the Football Association of Malaysia and chairman of Football Malaysia, said: “Football is the people’s game. It brings us together and can help to unite us.
“Malaysians everywhere should be able to enjoy it without restriction. With iflix, we have found likeminded partners and a key common goal: To return football to the people and restore its former glory.”
Starting February 3, football fans around the region will have virtual front-row seats to the entire football season, including 22 rounds with six matches weekly of Liga Super, 74 Piala FA and Piala Malaysia tournament matches, as well as selected Liga Premier and Piala Sumbangsih matches.
In addition to live-streamed matches, users will be able to access new features including match highlights and player interviews.
The new Football Malaysia on iflix channel will join iflix’s growing live sports streaming offerings, which include Indonesia’s Liga 1, T10 Cricket in Bangladesh, and eSports competitions for Dota 2.
Patrick Grove, group co-founder and chairman, iflix, concluded: “This collaboration with Football Malaysia represents exactly what we created iflix to achieve. Together, we will democratise the game, making football available for the first time to fans, regardless of geographic location and financial status.
“We are thrilled to write sports history, and give fans a virtual front-row seat to the nation’s top sporting event as well as help build the future of football, giving access to millions of potential fans who previously would not have been able to enjoy the game.”
