ATTO Technology adds illumos support in Celerity HBAs

The integration of illumos operating system reaffirms ATTO Technology’s commitment to the open source community

ATTO Technology has announced the integration of illumos support in its 32Gb and 16Gb Celerity fibre-channel host bus adapters (HBAs).

Designed to address the challenges brought forth by the exponential data growth from applications such as high-performance computing and data warehousing, ATTO Celerity Gen 6 32Gb and 16Gb HBAs are capable of managing latency for real-time applications, and are equipped with ATTO Advanced Data Streaming (ADS) technology that provides controlled data acceleration of data to deliver data transfers.

Tom Kolniak, senior director of marketing at ATTO Technology, added: “With the addition of illumos support for ATTO Celerity 32Gb and 16Gb fibre-channel HBAs, software-defined storage infrastructures gain additional options to address today’s complex storage challenges while laying the foundation for tomorrow’s all-flash data centres.”

Derived from OpenSolaris, illumos is an open community project to develop a “reliable and scalable” operating system. illumos distributions utilise zettabyte file system (ZFS), a combined file system and logical manager, making it compatible to be deployed under big data environments. In addition to ZFS, illumos uses DTrace, a dynamic tracing framework for troubleshooting, and Solaris Zones for the implementation of operating system-level virtualisation.
