The reform impacts 19 TV channels, 17 sets of domestic broadcasting frequencies, 44 languages of foreign broadcasting, three key news websites and media platforms. The group also plans to integrate its technologies and resources from all its platforms to formulate bespoke content in news, finance, economics, literature, art and education.

For instance, China Central TV will join forces with CMG to build a next-generation editorial office powered by AI to coordinate news websites, mobile TV, Internet TV, IPTV and other formats.

Wang Xiaozhe, CMG’s editorial office convenor, told China Daily: “In the overall reform process, more than 200 new programmes will be launched, and existing programmes will be promoted.

“The function positioning of each platform will be clearer and more professional.”

CMG hopes to accelerate production of sports, documentaries, operas and music with 4K resolution, while documentary in 8K.

CMG set up its headquarters in Shanghai last month to incorporate its copyright and editing of creative projects.
