Creamsource, a manufacturer of LED lighting solutions tailored for the film and television industry, has expanded its Vortex lighting portfolio with the launch of the Vortex2 (V2) and Vortex2 Soft (V2S). This introduces a more compact form factor that brings the company’s established colour science, workflow consistency, and rugged durability to a wider range of production environments.

The new 160W fixtures join the broader Vortex ecosystem, offering filmmakers, broadcasters, and content creators greater flexibility for studio productions, location shoots, and fast-paced live environments where space and mobility are often at a premium.

While both fixtures share the same CreamOS operating platform, colour management system, and IP65 weather-resistant construction found across the Vortex range, they are tailored for different lighting applications. The V2 features a tighter 20-degree beam angle for more directional output, while the V2S delivers a wider 110-degree spread suited for softer, broader illumination.

Weighing approximately 6kg without the yoke, the fixtures are designed for rapid deployment across a variety of production scenarios. Their compact size makes them suitable for use in smaller studios, mobile production setups, and locations where traditional lighting equipment may be difficult to position.

To support modern production workflows, the V2 Series incorporates built-in LumenRadio wireless connectivity, etherCON networking, pass-through DMX, and power distribution capabilities, enabling efficient daisy-chaining and multi-fixture configurations. New rigging features include a centre-mount gooseneck, multiple mounting points, and a 3-pin XLR DC input that allows operation using existing battery systems in the field.

The launch also reinforces Creamsource’s commitment to maintaining consistency across its lighting ecosystem. Both fixtures utilise the company’s Creamsource Colour Management System (CCMS), which leverages an RRGBBW LED engine and operates natively in CIE xy colour space. This allows the V2 Series to integrate with other Vortex fixtures while maintaining colour accuracy and predictable performance on set.

According to Tama Berkeljon, CEO of Creamsource, the development of the V2 Series was driven by practical production needs rather than simply creating a smaller version of an existing product. “We weren’t trying to make a smaller version of something simply to fill a gap in the lineup,” he said. “It is more about building a fixture people would want nearby all the time.”
