With the integration of Nagra’s OpenTV Suite, TBC Go subscribers will be able to access live TV and VoD services on-the-go

Taiwan Broadband Communications (TBC), a Taiwanese multi-system cable operator, has tapped Nagra to provide a new over-the-top (OTT) platform for its new OTT service, TBC Go.

Powered by Nagra’s OpenTV Suite, TBC Go will provide consumers with access to live TV on a variety of devices, as well as advanced features such as video-on-demand (VoD). This new OTT service is expected to be commercially available to TBC subscribers this June.

Jimmy Chen, CEO of TBC, said: “Nagra has been a key partner since 2015 in helping us roll out our newly digitised platform, and enable new services like our OTT platform. Its tightly integrated solutions provide fast time-to-market and its team is committed to our success. We look forward to introducing [TBC Go] to all of our subscribers in the next few months.”

The OpenTV Suite is a set of integrated and optimised TV components — comprising OpenTV Experience, OpenTV Platform, OpenTV OS and OpenTV Player — designed to facilitate and simplify access to digital media content on multiple viewing devices while delivering operational advantages of deployment speed, performance, service innovation, scalability and monetisation.

Stéphane Le Dréau, senior vice-president, sales and services, Asia-Pacific, Nagra, concluded: “This latest service launch highlights TBC’s commitment to its customers by extending its access both inside and outside the home. With the OpenTV Suite, TBC has an OTT solution that is widely used by operators around the world, and gives them a launchpad for new services and extended monetisation opportunities.”

Nagra will be demonstrating the OpenTV Suite at booth 1J2-01 during CommunicAsia2018, which will take place from June 26-28 at the Marina Bay Sands Convention Centre in Singapore.
