R&S-Spark Systems automation test speeding up DVB-T2 in Indonesia

With the analogue switch off (ASO) deadline set for November 2022, Indonesia has been progressively rolling out DVB-T2 nationwide. In addition, all digital TV receivers are required to obtain their certification that includes radio frequency (RF) performance, emergency warning system (EWS) and programme-specific information (PSI)/service information (SI) tests.

Seeing the increase in demand for digital TV receiver compliance testing in coming years, Rohde & Schwarz (R&S) and Spark Systems established a partnership to provide an automation test of these requirements set out by the authorities for Balai Besar Pengujian Perangkat Telekomunikasi (BBPPT), the national test lab under the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (Kominfo) in Indonesia.

This combination of R&S BTC broadcast test centre and RFSpark Auto Tester, according to both companies, can shorten the test duration of the RF performance test “from a week to less than 18 hours”.

Jia Xiaohui, Director of Spark Systems, explained: “The newly commissioned RFSpark Auto Tester enables the test lab to complete RF and EWS tests in a fully automated way within 20 hours and without human tester involvement. With the support of EWS testing, we aim to integrate with PSI/SI automation in future.”

Labelling the RFSpark Auto Tester as an “intuitive and reliable” automation tool, Eric Li, regional channel partner manager at R&S Singapore, added that the system can also support the integration with R&S legacy products – such as R&S SFU, R&S SFE and R&S SFC – to ultimately empower operators to enhance their test system utilisation and potentially lower the costs of testing.
