Mediacorp’s premium content will be streamed on both iflixVIP and iflixFREE. By leveraging a hybrid of SVoD and AVoD model, this will increase accessibility for local viewers and also lead to higher viewership from around the region.

Through this collaboration, Mediacorp plans to see similar success in Indochina markets by further expanding its footprint especially in countries such as Indonesia, Myanmar and the Philippines.

Doreen Neo, Mediacorp’s CCO, said: “iflix’s geographical reach will help to further extend our entertainment footprint in Asia, following our successful content deals with other video streaming players such as Netflix, China’s Youku and Tencent.”

iflix offers a wide range of content programming: TV shows, hyper-local originals, premium live sports and near-to-live news from Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, Brunei, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Myanmar, Vietnam, the Maldives, Cambodia, Nepal, and Bangladesh.

These markets are aligned with Mediacorp’s plan to enlarge its regional foothold so as to widen the distribution of its locally produced premium content.

She added: “We are very happy to partner with iflix to bring our ‘Made in Singapore’ content to more viewers in the region. This collaboration is yet another testament to the quality and universal appeal of Mediacorp content, which transcends language and culture.”

From April 1 this year, all iflix subscribers in Asia will gain access to popular Singapore dramas, variety shows and movies. For instance, the award-winning drama The Little Nonya that showcases the rich culture of South-east Asian Chinese. Apart from its Chinese catalogue, viewers will be able to stream its English classics such as Phua Chu Kang, and KIN, which will be simulcast through to Season 2.

Craig Galvin, iflix’s global head of content, said: “The partnership with Mediacorp is a massive boost to iflix’s AVoD business … and empowers iflix to continue to deliver the most relevant and compelling content to users in our territories for free.”
